Interview Tips

Know Your Cloud Provider

Deep knowledge of one cloud (AWS is most common) is better than shallow knowledge of all three. Be ready to discuss services in detail.

Explain Your Incident Experience

Prepare stories about production incidents: how you debugged, resolved, and prevented future occurrences.

Understand Networking

VPCs, load balancers, DNS, firewalls—networking questions are common. Understand the basics even if you're not a network engineer.

Show Automation Mindset

DevOps is about automation. Discuss how you've automated processes and reduced manual work.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Similar but different emphases. DevOps focuses on deployment and development workflow; SRE focuses on reliability and availability. Many companies use the terms interchangeably, and the skills overlap significantly.

Yes. Modern DevOps requires scripting (Python, Bash) at minimum, and increasingly Go or similar languages. Infrastructure as code means you're writing code, just for different purposes.

AWS has the most job opportunities. GCP is strong at startups. Azure is big in enterprise. Start with AWS for maximum options, but concepts transfer between providers.

Increasingly yes, but not for all roles. Many startups use managed Kubernetes or simpler solutions. Learn the basics, but don't stress about being a Kubernetes expert as a junior.
